Celebrate National Tourism Week
Is Scotland in your future travel plans? If you’ve always wanted to go but have never found the time nor means, you might want to add it this week during National Tourism Week! It’s time to dream, take stock of your traveling options, and start making those travel plans.
You don’t have to buy your tickets today, after all. First, decide where you want to go. Do you want to relax in a Highland café? Take in breathtaking green views on a romantic getaway? Research your heritage? Whether you dream of Scotland or another place entirely, do your research right now and make a note of exactly where and what you want to see.
Google the events or cities of your choice and discover what there is to do, see, eat, drink, and find there. Is there a specific time of year for your desired event, or could you do it anytime? Check out a book about your destination from the library, or order a vacation planner online (most are free). Look at maps and calendars to plan your trip. Make a list of 10 things you absolutely want to do in your destination of choice, with 5 or 10 backup options.
Next, pick a date. Make it a feasible one, one that you know you could save enough money for in time for travel. That might mean that it’s going to be a year or more away; that’s okay! As long as you select your date and start making plans, you are a step closer to taking your dream vacation.
If it’s sooner than later, pen it in your calendar. Make sure to get those days off from work if you need to. Start arranging for people to care for your pets and/or plants (and/or children if you aren’t bringing them on your trip). If it’s later, you still may wish to ask off far in advance, if your work allows you to do so.
Start saving for your trip. If you can easily plan it in your budget, you may just want to leave the savings in your bank account; if it’s going to take a little more planning, you might want to put your money into an accessible savings account, or in a safe, fireproof lockbox in your own home. Whatever you do, keep saving until you can get your tickets, check out ticket deals regularly, and make your dream trip come true.
